The Northern Lakes is an area of stunning natural beauty with its mountains, steep fellsides and tranquil waters. At the heart of the beautiful North lakes region is Keswick itself, nestling on the shores of Derwentwater and dominated by the smooth slopes of Skiddaw.

Keswick provides an excellent base to explore the mountains, valleys and lakes in this peaceful northern part of the Lake District National Park. Visitors can enjoy walking, cycling, adventure activities and water sports or merely take time to admire the wonderful landscapes.
Keswick Town Centre and Moot Hall
This bustling market town has a fascinating history, from St Kentigern's Church, the 13th-Century Market Charter and lead mining to the present-day farming, pencil manufacture and tourism. One of the most notable buildings in the town is the historic Moot Hall, situated in the centre of the market place, which now houses the Tourist Information Centre. With its array of speciality shops for food, clothing, outdoor gear, gifts, art and crafts, indoor and outdoor attractions, award-winning gardens and parks, tea shops, cosy pubs and restaurants, Keswick has plenty to offer visitors.

The Lake District is the perfect outdoor playground, offering exciting opportunities to try new activities in beautiful surroundings. Walkers are spoiled for choice in the North Lakes with everything from the higher summits of Skiddaw (931m) and Scafell (964m) to the gentler slopes of Latrigg (367m) and Catbells (445m), from forest walks to lakeside paths. There are many off-road trails in the area if cycling is your favourite pastime, ranging from low-level routes to steep mountain passes. Or you could try rock climbing, abseiling, pony trekking, golf, bowls and tennis. Keswick and the North lakes has everything you need for your holiday in the Heart of the Lake District.
